| Summary |
Diminished neurologic function places individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) at significant risk for pressure ulcer (PU) throughout their lifetimes. The risk of PU is attributable to multiple factors. A knowledge of these risk factors lead to measurable decrease in the incidence of PU. The main purpose of this study is to assess effectiviness PU Risk Assestment Scale developed for individual with SCI in determining risk of PU. One hundred seventy patients (125 with pressure ulcer, 45 without pressure ulcers) were enrolled in this study .Analysis of the risk factor effecting patients was performed by Presure Ulcer Rısk Assesment Scale. The results of two groups were compared statistically. Differences between two groups in level of activity (p<0.001), mobilite (p<0.001), complete SCI (p<0.001), urine incontinence or costantly moist (p<0.002) tobacco use-smoking (p<0.05), hematocrit - hemoglobin (p<0.05) renal disease (p<0.05) were statistically significant. There was no statistically significant differences in other variables (age, automatic dysreflexia, severe spasticity, cardiac disase-abnormal electrocardiyografi, diabetes mellitus (DM) or glucose > 110mg/dl, impaired cognitive function, nursing home or hospital, albumin) (p>0.05). |
