ABSTRACT
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to compare the patients who received physical therapy before and after the pandemic in terms of age, gender, diagnosis group and number of sessions. Material and Methods: Patients who received physical therapy between July 1, 2019 and January 1, 2020 [pre-coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic period] and July 1, 2021 and January 1, 2022 (post-COVID-19 pandemic period); age, gender, diagnoses and number of sessions were examined retrospectively. Results: 2,121 patients were included in the study. Before the pandemic, 1,628 patients had received physical therapy, and after the pandemic 493 patients had received physical therapy. In the pre-pandemic period, the diagnoses of the patients who were treated in the physical therapy unit were most frequently; intervertebral disc disorders, rotator cuff syndrome and meniscopathies; in the post-pandemic period, it was in the form of intervertebral disc disorders, rotator cuff syndrome and fracture rehabilitation. While the average number of sessions received by patients was 22 (16.75- 27) in pre-pandemic period, it was 20 (15-25) in post-pandemic period, which was statistically significantly lower (p<0.001). Conclusion: It was observed that the curfews applied during the COVID-19 pandemic period and the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, decreased the number of patients applying to the physical therapy unit. In cases where it is difficult or impossible for the patient to access physical therapy services, such as during the pandemic, we think that alternative solutions should be developed in terms of the sustainability of these services.
