Ligamentum flavum ossifikasyonu (LFO), tek başına veya posterior longitudinal ligaman ossifikasyonu (PLLO) ile birlikte spinal kord kompresyonuna ve miyelopatiye neden olabilmektedir. Genellikle Japon ırkında görülmekle birlikte, bu olgumuzda da olduğu gibi Türk ırkında da nadir de olsa LFO'ya bağlı torakal miyelopati gelişimi söz konusu olabilmektedir. Bu nedenle miyelopati gelişen olgularda LFO'nun da akılda tutulması ve araştırılması doğru olacaktır. LFO'ya bağlı miyelopatide cerrahi tedavi neredeyse tek seçenek olarak kabul edilmekle birlikte konservatif tedavinin etkinliğini gösteren yayınlara rastlanmamıştır. Biz de bu amaçla operasyonu kabul etmeyen, Türk ırkından bir kadın hastanın tanısını ve konservatif tedavi ile elde edilen klinik düzelmeyi literatür eşliğinde sunuyoruz. (FTR Bil Der 2012;15: 16-9)

The spinal cord compression and myelopathy can be due to the ossification of the ligamentum flavum(OLF) sometimes accompany with the ossification of the posterior longitudinal lligaman (OPLL). Even though this is mostly common among the Japanese people, but just as in our case it can also be found among Turkish people, although very rare. Therefore, it is important to take into account ligamentun flavum ossification in the development of myelopathy. Any myelopathy which is due to OLF, the only agreed treatment is surgery and there is no literature about the effectiveness of conservative treatments. We present the diagnosis and clinical improvement of a Turkish female patient with conservative treatment who does not accept the operation according to current literature (J PMR Sci 2012;15: 16-9)
